Social Networking: Better or Worse than the Real Thing?

The topic that I chose was "Social Networking: Better or Worse than the real thing?" because I go to a commuter school where networking in person is overstressed and really important… that is if you want to meet new people and land a job. But I’m not saying social networking won’t do that as well; platforms, like LinkedIn or Instagram, are more preferred by some people as a way to meet new people and getting to know them better. Some people may prefer social networking because they’re too shy to speak to people and may find it easier and more convenient to just send out a message by typing. There are many factors as to why people prefer networking socially and to why other people prefer networking. I intend to cover both regular networking and social networking in my analysis to better understand the positives and negatives.

  1. It is true that there are differences between networking in person vs social networking. Being a part of a commuter schools allows social networking to be a lot easier than networking in person. LinkedIn and Instagram are great social media platforms that we can use to connect with one another. Which type of networking do your prefer and why? Personally, I believe networking in person builds a stronger relationship than social networking. Getting to meet/know someone and reading their body language, personality, and attitude is very important. All these factors can say a lot about a person.
